UAE building standards: What building standards?

There are too many horror stories already relating to poor quality of construction and interior finishing. This is made worse by delayed completion dates and late deliveries. Investors, however continue to throw money at projects, buying off-plan without due consideration for the long-term payments of their property investment.
In the real world these investors would be held accountable by their own family members for squandering away the resources of future generations. Here in 'La-La Land' however, there are enough people with money pouring out of their wallets and purses that they have no idea of their own worth, nor have they they any concept of calculating investment return versus depreciation.
In these circles of wealth, buying into the latest property development is as must-have as you and I buying the latest $50 gadget.
The reality of the prevailing poor construction standards and a lack of sufficient government oversight during construction and final acceptance inspections will become apparent in a few years time when these new buildings will begin to deteriorate or simply start to fall apart. Maintenance costs, already ridiculously high today, will continue to escalate.
I won't be buying or moving in. Will you?

Building standards in the UAE fall way short

There is very little regulation of building sites (unless there happens to be a major collapse at the site). Many building contractors are here for a quick buck and are interested only in quantity and not quality.
Many of the contractors here hire illegal workers for their projects so tell me, how does that provide good standards?
Until there are regular inspections and tests conducted on the gradient of the concrete, for example, that is being used as well as an easily applicable international standard for all contractors to adhere to there will be little or no assurance that buildings are up to scratch.

There is no even standard to follow. Many buildings look like they will collapse at any point. The finishing is terrible and I believe many are not fit for human use.
If you don’t believe me go outside and see some finished projects and see for yourself. You'll get a better impression if it rains. I'm very sure you are going to enjoy it.
