Courchevel: the time is right

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Monday, 10 December 2007
Courchevel offers winter fun for all.

There's never been a better time for the Middle East traveller to visit Courchevel, the top end French ski resort's director of tourism Denis Zanon has claimed.

"We want to increase our market share from this region and the conjunction of all factors has never been so good - the fact that people [from the Middle East] are now interested in winter holidays; that they can sample skiing at Ski Dubai; and that learning to ski has never been so easy," he told ATN during a recent visit to the UAE.

"We already have snow because of our high altitude, but we can guarantee it on 80% of the slopes during the skiing season, thanks to our powerful snow-making facilities. "However, nearly 30% of our clients don't ski at all when they come to Courchevel - they can go snow shoe hiking, hot air ballooning, ice-skate, or take a sled ride."

Zanon visited the UAE with two Courchevel hoteliers and staged meetings with key travel trade and media in order to promote the destination, which this year has seen an uptake in Middle East traveller interest, particularly from the GCC.

"The comparison between my last visit one year ago is that we are noticing a definite interest in skiing and winter holidays - and from Arab Nationals, not just ex-pats from Europe. There is a real curiosity in what Courchevel has to offer," he said.

"We have quality products to meet clients' expectations, particularly spas attached to well known brands and luxury shopping malls."

Families are also well catered to according to Zanon, with the Village des Enfants facility taking care of kids aged from 18 months to 18 years, all day long, offering skiing, indoor games and much more.
