No frills for smart clients

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Wednesday, 05 December 2007

No frills hotels will be an instant hit with both business and leisure travellers visiting Dubai, the owning company of the brand new Dubai Express by Holiday Inn property has claimed.

"I really think people are quite value conscious. There's a huge need [for lower-end hotels] for the business person who wants to have a good comfortable stay but plans to focus on his business while he's in Dubai," explained Jacqui Boyzeen, operations director of owning company Ishraq, speaking to ATN as the new hotel, located in Dubai Internet City, staged an official opening on October 31.

"On the leisure side, if you have a look at folk from Europe, from places where they are familiar with the Express brand, they are more than happy to come to Dubai and see this familiar brand here. They know what they're going to get: it's a quality stay, but they have time to enjoy their stay in Dubai without paying exorbitant prices at hotels with services they don't even use. It's a very smart product, attractive to a smart guest," she added.

The four-storey Dubai Express by Holiday Inn offers 244 rooms, each 22m² and featuring high-speed internet connection and satellite TV. Hotel facilities include a gym, business centre, bar, lounge and restaurant. Prices start from around AED 500 (US $136) per night.

Ishraq plans to invest around US $600 million developing Express by Holiday Inn properties across the GCC in the next few years.

Boyzeen said the rapid development of low cost carriers (LCCs) such as Air Arabia and Jazeera Airways in the region would help drive demand for low cost accommodation and holidays.

"The low-cost package is music to everyone's ears in our game," she said. "At a later stage we will look at working with an airline."
