Bahraini spa boom

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Friday, 07 December 2007
The Diplomat Spa is now open.

The Diplomat Spa, owned by National Hotels Company and managed by Rezidor Hotel Group's Radisson SAS Hotels & Resorts brand, has become the largest spa to open in the heart of Manama, Bahrain.

Situated adjacent to The Diplomat Radisson SAS Hotel & Residence, the extensive wellness facility features a 280-metre lagoon pool; a ladies spa with 11 treatment rooms; a mixed spa with six treatment rooms; two health clubs; saunas; three outdoor and one indoor pool for ladies-only; massage beds; hydro baths; steam and Swiss showers; aerobics studio; and tennis and squash courts.

The Diplomat Spa has Thai influences and a team of 20 therapists trained at Sibalai Spa in Thailand.

General manager Rick Erdos said: "The Diplomat Residence SAS Hotel, Residence & Spa will help raise the standards of the Kingdom's wellness facilities as well as enhancing Bahrain as a destination for leisure and corporate travel.

The Diplomat Spa follows the opening of Banyan Tree Desert Spa & Resort Al Areen in April this year.

The hotel's general manager Sami Ayari said of the potential new competition: "The new spa at the Diplomat is a beautiful one and we hope more hotel spas will follow. In fact, we are very excited that more and more hotels are upgrading their facilities as both the local and expatriate communities are becoming spa aficionados.

"That said, we see this new spa as no competition as the Banyan Tree Spa Al Areen offers a complete destination spa experience through its hydrothermal and Hammam gardens, the spa itself, the fitness facilities and spa restaurant."
