Long time coming

The Gulf has been waiting for the FJ Cruiser for what seems like an eternity. Officially the delay was due to the car not meeting GCC specifications, but Toyota's traditional careful approach to new markets is certain to have played a small part.
For months the motoring press, off-road enthusiasts and the car-buying public have been screaming for the brightly coloured car. In fact, many people managed to lay their hands on an FJ in advance by buying one from the used car importers in Dubai's motoring souq. These US market cars, didn't have the correct air conditioning or spec levels for the market, but were still flying out of the doors.
Luckily for everyone else the full GCC car is now here and the huge demand seems to be continuing.
The car is based on the Prado platform but seems somewhat shorter to look at. The rounded rear end is probably the cause, along with the stubby nose. The military style flat windscreen also contributes to the short styling. A white roof and black side protectors give the exterior of the car its ‘Tonka toy' looks that caught so many eyes when the car was first unveiled to the public. The front round lights hark back to the original car that plied the deserts for oil decades ago.
Inside, the FJ has loads of space for the driver and passenger. For the rear passenger, the seats, which are accessed by the rear suicide doors, are a little cramped for anyone with long legs. The boot is spacious, although the odd looking stereo system takes up some of the space on the right hand side.
