More than a dozen passengers in a mini-bus drowned after the vehicle slid off a ferry as it crossed the Nile river in southern Egypt on Saturday, officials said.
The bus, which was carrying 16 men, women and children, did not have its emergency break on at the time, police said, reported newswire AP.
Rescue workers recovered 13 bodies and were still searching for the remaining three when the report was filed.
The incident is the latest in a series of transport accidents that have plagued Egypt in recent years, prompting public outcry that a failure by the government in enforcing safety standards is stifling the country’s tourism industry.
Saturday’s sinking occurred less than a month after five people died when another ferry caught fire while cruising down the Nile.
