New kid on the block

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Monday, 24 December 2007
Synergy melds a futuristic form with a traditional architectural concept.

Synergy, the new offering from Indian architecture firm Sanjay Puri Architects and the newest addition to Dubai's Business Bay, is set to begin phase one of construction.

The twenty-storey structure has been designed by Sanjay Puri and Sapna Khakaria and appears as a stack of cuboids that fluidly merge on the sides and emanate from a single volume.

The cubes separate sculpturally as the building's façade moves toward the front and rear, which creates open green spaces and shaded terraces to the office inhabitants. The face of the building overlooks the main access road, while the rear overlooks a promenade and man-made lake.

Synergy's façade is comprised of a screen wall punctuated by a motif derived from traditional Islamic art that provides privacy from the adjacent buildings planned on either side and reduces heat gain to the interior spaces.

"This building is responsive to its location and climate while being sculptural in its rendition of form," said head architect Sanjay Puri.

The 16 storeys of office space are joined by a similarly landscaped, three-level parking area and a ground-floor podium retail space.

The roof of the parking area has been designed to incorporate a gymnasium and a terrace pool. Comprised of 13,000 m² of built space, the project is estimated to cost approximately €7.5 million (AED 41 million).
