ITCA goes from strength to strength

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer on Tuesday, 01 January 2008
ITCA bigger and better than last year.

The second International Travel Catering Association (ITCA) conference staged last month was "bigger and better than last year", the event's organiser, Dubai World Trade Centre (DWTC) has claimed.

The three-day exhibition, which ran from December 10-13 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC), featured 123 participating companies from 23 countries who represented the best in the world of travel catering and in-flight services, DWTC revealed.

The event was Sponsored by Emirates Airline with the exhibition component sponsored by Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) and served as a key platform for boosting associated industries in the Middle East.

"The conference is a 40% increase in the size of the exhibition as far as the size within the show, and 60% of them are actually new companies," said DWTC project manager Bilal Al Rais.

"This is the only event of its kind, very specific to the travel catering segment in a vast range of countries, from India all the way to Africa."

The show featured exhibitiors from all sectors of the industry including caterers, suppliers and in-flight service providers.

"ITCA Dubai is all about introducing the caterers to the food service suppliers and we're trying to get everyone in the same picture," Al Rais said.

"What makes our show special is that we specifically focus on the different suppliers within this region that people would not be able to meet if they went to another show."

With the growth in airline traffic in the Middle East currently pegged at 7% as opposed to 5% for the rest of the world, ITCA expects the conference to grow in proportion to this.

"With the airline passenger movement that is increasing from year to year, especially here in the Middle East, we anticipate that along with the growth in airport developments, ITCA will continue to be an excellent sourcing platform for the many caterers and suppliers in the market," said Al Rais.
