First full service spa well received in Alexandria

by Chris Jackson on Sunday, 13 January 2008

Four Seasons Hotel Alexandria at San Stefano has seen strong demand for its spa product since opening last year, despite the concept of a ‘full-service spa' being new to the city, according to spa director Martin Hilton.

"Spa is a very new concept here, it is quite well established in Cairo but it is new here [in Alexandria]," he explained.

"Most of the other operations here are more health clubs, but we are a spa and wellness facility. So it has been an educational process with the guests we have coming in, telling them about the benefits of spa and the benefit of looking after themselves. We are encouraging guests to come early, especially those who live locally, so they can come and have their treatment and then stay at the spa all day.

"We have had a very good response. We are open to hotel guests and outside guests, and we have had a lot of people coming in from the public for massages. There is a very high percentage of men, which is good to see, because in most other parts of the world it would be more women coming in. I would say at the moment it is 60% male, 40% female - the Egyptian men like massage."

The spa is spread across two levels of the property, but with 950 apartments planned to open as part of the San Steffano complex where the hotel is located Hilton foresees increased demand for the spa's facilities.
