US president George W. Bush was greeted with light rain as he touched down in Abu Dhabi on Sunday morning for a two-day official visit to the UAE as part of his Middle East tour - the first time a US president has visited the Emirates.
President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahayan and Vice President and ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum led a party of senior officials to welcome the US president upon arrival at Abu Dhabi International Airport, state news agency Wam reported.
Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister Sheikh Hamdan bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan also received Bush upon arrival.
The UAE is the third stop on his whirlwind visit to the Middle East, where he will deliver the key address of the tour. Bush is expected to arrive in Dubai on Monday.
The tour, in which includes stops in Israel, Palestine, Bahrain, the UAE, Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, ends on January 16.
