STME to provide storage for SAA SAP project

by Mark Sutton on Sunday, 13 January 2008

Storage specialist STME has announced that it has been selected as the storage partner for Saudi Arabian Airlines SAP deployment .

Saudi Arabian Airlines is about to begin a major roll out of SAP, including financial management, HR and payroll management and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) systems, over the next two years. SAP chose STME as the storage partner based on its strong local presence, vendor portfolio and its existing relationship with the airline, according to Yasser Wardany, sales director, STME.

"STME's local presence and its partnership with Sun Microsystems, HDS and CISCO have made us the natural choice for SAP to depend on for this historical project. The years of successful association with SAA are based on our ability to provide our customers with business focused solutions to manage, store and protect their information and we are convinced that our infrastructure set up will do just that," he said.

The storage element of the project includes Sun M8000 enterprise servers connected to HDS USP1100 storage systems, and Sun STK SL8500 tape backup libraries. STME will also handle the implementation of SAN and IP networks for the SAP environment.

"We are pleased to be working with STME as we embark on this major milestone," said Muhammad Ali Albakri; chief of systems engineering & applications and the ERP Project Director of Saudi Arabian Airlines. "With the nine separate subsidiaries that are being spun off as a result of the imminent privatisation efforts, it is necessary to revamp our IT infrastructure and STME is by far the right choice."
