Airport to function normally

Dubai airport will function normally on Monday despite the mass road closures to accommodate the visit of US president George W. Bush, civil aviation officials said late on Sunday as concerns grew over whether passengers would be able to make their flights.

Dubai Civil Aviation (DCA) said Dubai International Airport would be operating as usual, but advised passengers to arrive four hours before departure rather than the traditional two hours to avoid delays.

"We usually advise passengers to come two hours in advance, but are asking them to arrive a couple of hours earlier on Monday to avoid delays," said a DCA official, quoted UAE daily Gulf News.

Meanwhile, Dubai Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has advised anyone heading for the airport from Bur Dubai or Jumeirah to use Emirates Road.

"People wishing to go to the Dubai International Airport from Bur Dubai should use the Jumeirah or the Al Wasl Road to first reach the Emirates Road. For reaching the Emirates Road, they can take the Safa Street passing by the Defence Junction and then further passing by Ras Al Khor," an RTA official said, quoted UAE daily Khaleej Times.

"They can also take the Garden Street passing by the Safa Park and then the Muscat Street, or the Al Sofouh Street passing by Intersection 4 or 5 in order to reach the Emirates Road."

The official said to reach Terminal 2, motorists should use Emirates Road passing by the Al Muhaisna junction, taking Exit 60 and then turn left to Al Nahda Street and again left to the Damascus Street, according to the newspaper.

To reach Terminal 1, the official said motorists should take Emirates Road, pass by Al Muhaisna junction taking Exit 60, turn left to the Al Nahda Street, left again to the Ittihad Road, and left yet again to the airport.

During this time when all the roads were blocked saw 12-15 Emirates Cabin crew dragging their suitcases over bridges probably to get to there accomadation after probably a long flight. What came to my mind right away that there seems no kind of organization in a profesional company like Emirates to take care of there staff who have just finished their duty. Thankfully the rain did not hit Dubai yesterday..

Well done to all those who walked back home..If your management did not recognize it, a total outsider viewing this felt pity on you poor tired souls...

How to get there?

It is understandable that security needs to be tight due to President Bush's visit. But, how do you get to the airport from Bur Dubai when almost all roads are closed around this area leading to Diera, Garhoud Bridge, Makhtoum Bridge? Have the authorities thought about this?

Because of the situation no taxi driver wants to take me to the airport for my flight departing at 1800hrs which I have been tryng to find one since 1400hrs. I have to cancelled my flight. Time is now 1600hrs. And, they have the cheek to advise passengers to arrive 4 hours before their departure done. How to get there?
