Aruba Networks has announced it plans to purchase AirWave networks, a a provider of management solutions for multi-vendor wireless networks, for $37 million.
The deal, which should close in Q3 of Aruba's financial year 2008, will give the network mobility and security vendor additional capabilities in vendor-neutral network management and expand its partner offerings.
The AirWave Wireless Management Suite provides centralized management of WLAN, Mesh and WiMax networks, and is compatibale with technologies from major vendors including Cisco, Aruba, HP ProCurve, Motorola/Symbol, Avaya, Foundry, Proxim, 3Com, Trapeze, and Tropos.
Dominic Orr, president and CEO of Aruba commented: "Customers have a vision of how they want to architect and deploy their networks, and those networks often include multiple vendors. We believe it is important to respect customers' choices in these matters, and this acquisition positions us as the first mobility vendor to move beyond simple interoperability and offer cross-vendor network management, too. Whether a customer wants to preserve some existing assets, or stage a phased roll-out of new technologies like 802.11n, the management of multi-vendor legacy and new devices is imperative."
AirWave will operate as a business unit of Aruba.
