Dubai DED e-services attract one million users

by Mark Sutton on Tuesday, 15 January 2008

The Dubai Department of Economic Development (DED) had over 1 million users of its online services by the end of 2007.

The DED, which is responsible for the regulation and promotion of trade and industry within the emirate, hosts a number of services for businesses on the site www.dubaided.gov.ae/eservices. The most commonly used services were the Transaction Status Service, which allows users to track the status of transactions with the DED, and the Business Set up Simulator. Company searches were also popular.

Abdullah Saif Al Kaabi, Director of DED's Information Technology Division said: "The interest in eServices and the increasing number of users highlights the successful roll-out of the directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, to position Dubai as an e-driven economy.

"The success is part of DED's strategy to provide value-added services to its customers in compliance with the application of eGovernance policies that boost productivity and enhance the quality of customer service," he added. "The DED intends to introduce a new batch of services on its website in the coming months to achieve greater effectiveness in performance and reduce cost burden - on both the government and entrepreneurs."
