Honeywell launches increased security solutions

by Alison Luke on Wednesday, 16 January 2008

Honeywell Automation and Control Solutions launched two new technologies at this week's Intersec Middle East that are aimed at increasing security solutions in the region.

The firm launched Honeywell Video Analytics into the Middle East market; it also used Intersec for the global launch of its Combined Face and Iris Recognition (CFAIRS) technology.

The Video Analytics technology was developed to raise the effectiveness of closed circuit television (cctv) systems. Honeywell general manager Middle East Michael Flink explained: "Many cctv installations have 200, 300 or 400 cameras, the challenge is to be able to use the information that they are recording.

"With Video Analytics we are taking this technology to the next step, we now have software that can automatically analyse the information and give an alarm if something changes so the operator knows to look at this camera output immediately."

The CFAIRS biometric security product is currently at the testing stage, with prototypes expected to be ready in Q2 2008. "The key difference is we are moving away from a recognition distance of 1ft, whereas CFAIRS works at a distance of up to 5m and can be operated in non-cooperative areas or high throughput portals such as airports," explained Peter Void, director business development ACS Advanced Technology, Honeywell.

The product has a sensor head that scans the immediate field of view; the technology can read and recognize individual iris' without the person having to stand still in front of the reader.
