Lessons in safety from Nakheel
by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer on Saturday, 19 January 2008
Nakheel has set up a training school providing health and safety courses for construction firms.
The move marks an outsourcing of the property developer's ‘in-house' training scheme, which covers areas such as fire safety, security and health.
The school will be based in Jebel Ali near Ibn Battuta Mall and will be accredited by various institutions including the National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health (NEBOSH) and the World Safety Organistion.
One of the aims of having an internationally-accredited syllabus is that it will be able to serve Nakheel with its international projects. "The idea is to have the flexibility to deliver training all around the world," said Wayne Harris, general manager, corporate health and safety, the Design Group, Nakheel.
"Nakheel could develop a project anywhere in the world in the future; people may need to go there from Dubai, but will still need to be trained to the standards of that country."
Harris added that the training school has already generated a fair amount of interest among contractors in the region.
