Dubai-owned real estate company Tatweer has teamed up with US production company DreamWorks Animation SKG is to develop tourism and leisure projects in the emirate, including a branded theme park, the company announced on Sunday.

Tatweer said the 46.5-hectare DreamWorks Animation theme park would be located in Dubailand, billed as the biggest tourism, leisure and entertainment complex in the world.

Tatweer did not say how much the theme park would cost other than it was a "multi-billion dirham investment".

It said the two companies would also work together to develop Dreamworks Animation themed restaurants, hotels and retail outlets in the region.

DreamWorks Animation is just the latest US studio to announce a tie-up the region.

Warner Bros Entertainment said in September it would set up a film and video game production firm with Abu Dhabi-based Aldar Properties and Abu Dhabi Media Company, as well as developing a theme park, hotel and cinemas in the emirate.

And in May Tatweer announced it would build a Universal Studios theme park in Dubailand as part of a multi-use Universal City development at a cost of 8 billion dirhams ($2.2 billion).

Tatweer, part of conglomerate Dubai Holding, is the owner and lead developer of Dubailand, a 279-square kilometre leisure and tourism project that includes developments such as Dubai Sports City, Motor City, Falcon City and Dubai Heritage Vision.

DreamWorks in Dubailand...Masha'Allah what a great organization to add to the list. Their quality and vision has produced fantastic cinema for everyones enjoyment. Bringing their signature computer animation to Dubailand offers digital imagination which is virtually unlimited. Once this theme park city is completed we will have to create a new conceptual word for such a mega complex of intertainment and adventure...DubaiDreamLandWorks!
