Dubai Municipality today announced plans to undertake 109 landscape and beautification projects at a cost of approximately US$126 million.
The projects include the development of the existing six public parks within the emirate, plus the creation of an additional 21 neighbourhood parks, 23 new community facilities, four pond parks plus other beautification projects.
All existing parks, such as Safa and Zabeel, are to be expanded, and new parks are planned for areas such as Mirdif, Al Barsha and Qusais, Dubai Muncipality said. The new parks will include facilities such as jogging tracks, water features and shaded sitting areas, the civic body said.
Other work will include $3.2m worth of unspecified improvements to the Port Saeed Plaza.
The investment is part of Dubai Muncipality's Strategic Plan 2007-2011, which seeks to increase the per capita share of greenery to 23.4 square metres by the end of the plan cycle and to raise the total area of cultivated land to 3.15% of the total urban land by 2011.
