Downtown wins final Al Areen job

Downtown Construction Company has been awarded a US $11.5 million (BHD 4.3 million) infrastructure works contract for the second and final phase of Gulf Holding Company's Downtown Al Areen project in Bahrain.
The contract involves the construction of roads, water and storage facilities and other services.
Work is expected to begin later this month with a completion schedule of 15 months.
Bahraini firm Ahmed Mansoor Al Aali was recently awarded a $216 million construction contract for the Main Boulevard element of the project, which will be made up of residential and commercial areas and a hotel.
Construction work on this phase is scheduled for completion at the end of 2010.
The project, which is spread over 260,000m2, has been designed by Atkins.
"This contract closely follows the awarding of the construction contract for Downtown Al Areen and is a clear indication of our commitment towards ensuring a speedy completion of this signature project," said Ahmed Al Ameer, vice chairman & chief executive officer, GHC.
