Royal Jordanian Airlines has increased its fleet after agreeing to lease two Boeing Dreamliner 787s.

The planes will operate for 12 years, starting from 2012. Each will be deployed on either the carrier's Far East or US routes.

Financing for the deal was provided by CIT Aerospace International. The agreement was signed by Royal Jordanian's president and CEO Samar Majali, and Damon J. D'Agostino, senior vice president and chief sales officer at CIT.

According to management, the 787s will help modernise Royal Jordanian's fleet. This agreement follows a deal with Boeing to buy four Dreamliners, which will be delivered in 2013 and 2014.

The carrier plans to secure a further eight 787s on lease in the coming years. International Lease Finance Corporation will provide two by the start of 2011. Royal Jordanian is also expected to sign an agreement with Low-Cost Aircraft Leasing for a further three.

Aside from 787s, Royal Jordanian is also adding Embraer 175s, two Airbus A319s and two Airbus A321s to its fleet.

The airline currently operates 26 aircraft, 23 of which are for passenger transportation. Freighter operations account for another two, while the final aircraft is used by Royal Wings on charter flights.
