Low Cost Carrier (LLC) market set to soar according to Air Asia X chief

The CEO of recently launched low-cost long-haul Air Asia X is predicting that mass global travel will veer towards the LCC model and that travellers will vote with their wallets by mainly choosing the budget option.

The Air Asia X chief, Azran Osman-Rani, who is scheduled to speak in the inaugural session of Travel Distribution Executive Conference to be held in Singapore (18-19 March), believes that increased access to the internet and a greater number of people wanting to travel, will only benefit the LCC market.

"I do feel that there is a global shift towards a LCC option in most travellers' eyes, as the majority of mass travel is tourism and cost is an important deciding factor," he explained.

And he also believes that customer confidence in the quality and safety of budget air is at an all time high.

"With the growing LCC carrier start-ups and the new plane technology, any doubts about safety and security are slowly dissipating amongst travellers. Plus, some LCC's are addressing the two-cabin seating configurations allowing the traveller choice, at a cost, to upgrade to a larger business class style seat, but keeping costs low with a single service principle," he added.

Osman-Rani also attributed the proliferation of LCC carriers to the increase in meta-style search engines that deliver customisable and up-to-date information for travelers and that offers them consumer choice at their finger tips like never before.
