The Dubai centre of US-based Arabic channel, Alhurra TV has invested in an Avid Unity LAN share with four terrabytes of video storage capacity and two Media Composer edit suites to enable it to edit footages locally before sending them to air. The project will enable the channel's Dubai office to move from a linear operation to a non-linear workflow. The systems were supplied by Wecom Global, Avid's local distributor.
"Previously, Alhurra used to send all its footage to its main office in the US. Editing was done either in the Alhurra head quarters or through a linear editing setup in Dubai before transmission," stated Manoj Bhatia, managing director, Wecom Global. "Also, all ingest was done through a VTR for editing. Now, however, with the Avid Unity LAN share, everyone on the production team can simultaneously access the same files from a central server. They can also use the Media Composers to do editing and add special effects."
Wecom Global trained five people at the channel to use the software and manage the central storage environment.
