Marks & Spencer has launched a new restaurant, designed as a refuge for tired shoppers, at its Dubai Festival City store.
The British clothing and food retailer, a member of the Al-Futtaim Group of companies, has positioned The Lounge on the first floor of the 64,000ft² store, as "a secluded haven away from the hustle and bustle to relax and enjoy traditionally home cooked dishes."
Nigel Rea, general manager for Marks & Spencer UAE, said the move comes as part of a concerted effort to provide "the best shopping environment" in addition to its existing espresso bar and bakery.
Developed as "a peaceful meeting venue or for those simply catching up with friends over a coffee," New York-based interior designer Yabu Pushelberg provided the concept for the restaurant, prompting the use of calm, muted colour schemes warmed by the ambient lighting scheme.
Shoppers have the option of al fresco dining on the balcony or inside the restaurant, reminiscent of "a colonial-style teahouse."
The all-day menu has been engineered to include organic produce, and offers light and nutritious snacks including wraps and salads, main course dishes including Fisherman's Pie, and breakfast items. The special children's menu focuses on traditional favourites including boiled egg with soldiers and fish fingers.
