The inauguration of the signature Ernie Els-designed golf course at Dubai Sports City (DSC) is the first of several facility launches for the Dubailand sports attraction planned for this year.
The 7538-yard golf course, which is branded The Els Club and managed by Troon Golf, was inaugurated on January 28 by its designer, Ernie Els.
"The golf course will then come into commercial operation in about a month's time. So that's very exciting that we are actually going to have, after all this time, something up and operating on the site," said marketing director for sports business, DSC, Malcolm Thorpe.
Also scheduled to open this year is the cricket stadium and International Cricket Council Global Cricket Academy, World Hockey Academy, a rugby academy and the permanent base for the Manchester United Soccer School, which is operating off-site at present.
Along with Global Village, DSC is therefore one of the most advanced Dubailand projects.
Dubailand CEO Mohammed Al Habbai said: "I would like to extend my congratulations to Dubai Sports City on the achievements accomplished. We are proud to witness the launch of yet another world class attraction, The Els Club, at Dubai Sports City, which will become an integral part of the Dubailand destination offerings."
