Philips has installed what it describes as the first ‘Ambient Experience' Cath Lab in the region.
The new facility, located at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Centre (KFSH) in Riyadh, is designed to make patients feel more relaxed during the catheterisation procedure.
Coloured lighting illuminates the walls of the lab, patients choose a visual theme that is displayed on the LCD panels of the ceiling and soothing sounds play in the background.
Medical staff can also benefit from the Ambient Experience. Diffuse lighting is designed to eliminating any shadows or reflections on monitors.
Consistent lighting also makes the room relaxing and soothing to a physician's eyes.
Physicians can check a patient's status before procedures using a mirror television placed in the preparation room.
This allows the physician to immediately focus on the patient once inside the lab.
According to Philips, the laboratory and others like it will revolutionise the way medical examinations are undertaken, giving patients more control over their experience and allowing physicians to focus on the patient.
Walter Van Kuijen, CEO, multi-country region, Philips EMEA, said: "The Middle East is a dynamic and hugely important marketplace and we want to be at the forefront of helping provide the highest quality healthcare to people in the region.
The installation of the Ambient Experience Cath Lab at the King Faisal Specialist Hospital & Research Center is a perfect demonstration of our dedication to be a leader in healthcare technology in the Middle East."
KFSH plans to perform all invasive cardiology adult & paediatric procedures in the Ambient Experience Cath Lab going forward, except for electrophysiology cases, for which KFSH has a dedicated Cath Lab.
