American leads the recruitment charge

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Tuesday, 12 February 2008

The American Hospital Dubai is on the hunt for a new CEO and more than 50 physicians.

Foteh Tleel, director of marketing and sales, said the recruitment drive was part of a move towards a multi-specialty model of care that will see the hospital spread out into more niche areas of practice.

"We're trying to multiply the number of physicians within the existing specialties, but we're also extending into new specialties such as paediatric diabetology, and cosmetic surgery.

"This year we're looking for about 15 new physicians, and the plan is to have a total of 110 in place by 2009."

With the departure of former CEO Michael French, who led the hospital for five years, AUD is also in the process of shortlisting candidates to oversee the facility, Tleel said.

"I expect there to be an announcement in the next two to three months."

AUD's move towards more specialist care is backed by a multi-million dollar overhaul of its IT system. Created by an all-star line-up including Siemens, HP technology and US firm Lawson, the first phase of the system is set to go live in August of this year.

Calling the system "a major contribution to better patient care," Tleel said the investment would help AUD gain an edge on the marketplace as more facilities hit international standards.

"We're looking at this project as a need for the hospital, to maintain our lead."
