Emirates International Investment Company (EIIC) has unveiled plans to develop a US$5 billion urban park in Algeria.
The Dounya park, which is being developed by a subsidiary of EIIC, will cover 6.6 million m2 in total with three quarters of the space designated to be a central metropolitan park, and the remaining space allocated to commercial and residential development.
US-based management, engineering and construction firm Parsons Corporation is providing architectural and design consultancy services on the project.
The concept for the park includes a ‘green belt' of one million trees around the periphery, as well as Mediterranean trees, olive groves and themed gardens in the interior of the site. The park is also to have nature and hiking trails, as well as a golf course, children's play areas, and an equestrian centre.
"We designed Dounya Parc to preserve the nature of the site, but also to address the urban development of the surrounding areas," said Khayyan Turki, CEO of Dounya Parc.
Construction on the park is scheduled to begin shortly, with completion expected by 2012.
