Promising an escape from the congestion of the city, Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club is an alternative option for planners.

There aren't many expanses of greenery in Dubai, but the Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club is home to 68-acres of green fields, plenty of which can be incorporated into corporate meetings and events, team-building programmes of corporate social family days.

Since its opening in April 2006, the club has built up a steady following of polo fanatics, but in recent months there has been an increasing amount of interest from the corporate market.

"For the meetings and corporate events, this is something completely different," says general manager Karim Klaa.

"Today the market in Dubai is of the nature that everybody is generally having their events in hotels or Dubai World Trade Centre."

"The advantage of coming here is that the venue is completely different - you are in the middle of nature and there is greenery surrounding the club."

Interactive activities where delegates can get involved in the action, such as riding lessons, a Polo Experience where delegates can learn the basics of polo and, for the more adventurous, the Camel Polo Experience, offer planners a unique alternative to a day in a stuffy meeting room.

"We can incorporate a meeting programme with the polo experience, or some riding lessons, a stable tour and some F&B - whatever the client wants," Klaa explains.

The club house has a range of meeting rooms that can cater to groups of varying sizes and a selection of outdoor venues for bigger groups - cocktail evenings and gala dinners - including the polo track itself.

All the meetings rooms in the club are fitted with the latest in AV technology, including plasma screen TVs and variable lighting systems for different effects.

According to Klaa, the club's location is one of its key selling points: "It's a place where you can spend the whole day; you can have your meeting and then the polo experience or even watch a game if there is one on that day, which takes about an hour and a half," he explains.

"We also have a spa so you can finish up after the meeting with a polo experience followed by a massage in the spa and then a nice meal."

Existing traffic problems due to the ongoing construction work on the Emirates Road are likely to come to an end in May when the work is complete, Klaa added.
