Virgin Atlantic is set to make the first bio-fuel flight by a commercial airline on February 24.

In conjunction with Boeing the airline will fly Virgin Atlantic 747 from London Heathrow to Amsterdam to demonstrate the use sustainable aircraft fuel, as part of its drive to reduce the environmental impact of its flights.

"This breakthrough will help Virgin Atlantic to fly its planes using clean fuel sooner than expected. The demonstration flight will give us crucial knowledge that we can use to dramatically reduce our carbon footprint," said Sir Richard Branson, president, Virgin Atlantic.
