Fire in Empa's Jebel Ali warehouse destroyed millions of dollars of stock

IT distributor Empa claims it has successfully implemented contingency measures to offset the side effects of the fire that tore through its Jebel Ali warehouse in December last year, destroying million of dollars of stock.

The company claims that employees involved in critical operations have already resumed work in a new facility elsewhere in Jebel Ali that is forming part of the company's new headquarters in the Dubai-based free zone.

"Empa is doing everything possible to minimise customer discomfort, working extra hours to remove obstacles that cause unnecessary delays to the full recovery of operations," asserted Empa president Rahd Hamidaddin. "I assure our customers that the company is fully prepared to meet various emergency cases, as all our staff members have been sufficiently briefed on their responsibilities in situations like this," he added.

At the time of the blaze Hamidaddin was quick to reassure resellers that Empa will do everything it can to minimise the disruption caused by the fire. Empa counts the likes of Asus, Biostar, Kingston, LaCie, MSI, Philips, and SimpleTech among its vendor partners. But it was Intel - long term partners of Empa - which was rumored to have been the vendor most affected by the fire with sources claiming that it had over US$5m worth of stock wiped out.

Empa has now promised partners and customers that damaged products will be immediately replenished and that the stock was fully covered by the company's insurance.

"The company also received an outpouring of support from customers and partners," said Hamidaddin. "Naturally, this has further boosted our enthusiasm to resolve all issues within the shortest time possible."

According to Empa it has not been as adversely affected by the fire as it might have been thanks to the fact that prior to the blaze it already had plans in motion to move into new premises in Jebel Ali. The cause of the fire has, as yet, not been established.
