Samsung quickest to burn
by Matt Wade on Monday, 03 March 2008
Samsung Electronics has unveiled a new DVD burner for PC, which it claims is the fastest consumer data writer in the industry.
The company’s Super-WriteMaster SH-S223 uses the over-speed technique to tout a maximum write speed of 22X speeds, using 16X media, and 12X on 8X media.
“The new SH-S223 drive has outstanding specs and performance that make consumers’ digital lives much easier,” commented Raj Samuel, the sales and marketing manager of Samsung Gulf’s storage division. He added that Samsung was also “proud to be the first company to launch the 22X DVD-W media in our region”.
The SH-S223 drive is capable of burning to a myriad of media types, including DVD±R, DVD-RAM, DVD+R Dual Layer, DVD-R Dual Layer, DVD+RW and DVD-RW discs.
In terms of what its quoted burn rates mean in everyday life, Samsung claims the drive enables users to burn 4.7Gbytes of data onto a DVD±R disc in approximately four minutes and 26 seconds (a claimed 6 increase in speed over a 20X DVD writer). According to Samsung, the SH-S223 also takes less than 12 minutes to burn the same 4.7Gbytes to DVD-RAM media; a 30% increase over a 20X DVD drive.
