Qatar Telecom's newly unveiled Mozaic SMS Chat service has been an instant hit in its first week of launch - with over 11 million messages sent by users.
The interactive text-based service was originally launched in Oman, where over 100,000 people signed up. The service was launched in Qatar on February 11, and soon signed up 30,000 new users. Currently, hundreds of new users are joining the service each day.
"Mozaic SMS chat is very similar to other chat applications on the internet where customers can register, create a nickname and start chatting with other users or join public chat rooms to discuss topics such as football and movies," said Sheikh Fahad bin Jassim Al-Thani, chief operating officer at Qtel.
"It connects people with common interests in a convenient and fun way all via their mobile phone. Mozaic Mobile really is the way to go," he added.
There are 11 different chat rooms subscribers can use including Football, Café and Banat, all with rules regarding offensive language and violence.
