Dubai-based horseracing mixed-used development Meydan has announced that construction of the Meydan Racecourse Grandstand has reached the first and mezzanine floors.
Head of projects at Meydan Douglas Small said: "A total of 52,000 cubic metres of concrete has already been laid, with a total of 2600 construction workers currently employed on site, which will rise to 5000 at the height of the works. Sixteen tower cranes are currently on site, with a further two to be added shortly."
The mezzanine floor will feature the Meydan Museum and Gallery, Banyan Tree Resort-managed Meydan Hotel and the Dubai Racing Club office, as well as the main lobby and entrance lobby for the grandstand.
When completed, the grandstand is expected to have a seating capacity of more than 60,000 people.
Meydan Racecourse is located close to self-contained community Meydan City.
Earthwork on this residential, commercial and retail community is now near completion, with construction on the canals soon set to begin.
