UAE Minister of Economy His Excellency Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri officially opened the 14th edition of CABSAT yesterday, marking the beginning of what is set to be the biggest and best installment yet of the region's top annual electronic media and satellite communications event.
Following the ribbon-cutting ceremony, His Excellency Al Mansouri toured the exhibition, meeting leading international and regional suppliers, while reviewing the latest developments in technology and displays of new broadcast equipment.
"We are honoured by the presence of His Excellency Sultan bin Saeed Al Mansouri and are delighted by the strong industry response on the first day of this exciting event," said Helal Saeed Al Marri, director general of DWTC.
"Product launches from cable and satellite manufacturers confirm CABSAT's presence as a platform to establish business partnerships and alliances for major companies in the market.
"CABSAT not only provides a targeted platform for ongoing business development, it also provides an essential opportunity for the industry to discuss its growth and development.
Indeed, strong showings on day one by key exhibitors and impressive visitor numbers on the show floor bode well for the remaining two days of the event. Visitors flocked to see the latest products from the more than 650 exhibitors involved in this year's event.
Broadcast industry giants including Harris, Sony, Arabsat, Horizon, Eurostar and Technosat, all reported strong interest in key products from visitors to their stands. Harris marked day one of CABSAT by officially launching its new Nexio Amp media platform, while Omneon revealed a landmark storage and archiving technology contract with Arabian Television Network.
This year's Knowledge Exchange initiative, consisting of the CABSAT Broadcasting Conference, the GVF Menasat Summit and the HD Studio 'Live', also proved a major hit with day one visitors.
The two-day Broadcasting Conference kicked off with in-depth sessions focusing on the business case for high definition television services and mobile TV services. Jamal Al Sharif, CEO of Dubai Studio City, also delivered a keynote address praising the impressive growth of the region's broadcast production industry.
