Energy City Qatar signs ATandT and Qtel

Energy City Qatar (ECQ) announced today that it has signed AT&T and Qatari telecom Qtel to provide voice and data services to the project. The parties signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly develop and manage services for the city, the Gulf's first business hub for the energy sector.

Under the terms of the MOU, AT&T and Qtel will work with ECQ to build both a carrier class internet data centre (IDC) and a network operations centre (NOC) to serve the city. The data centres will be managed by service provider NavLink, which in turn will work with AT&T and Qtel to deliver hosting and managed services to the ECQ tenants.

Hesham Al Emadi, CEO of Energy City Qatar commented: "Joining Qtel and AT&T's advanced telecoms technologies and expertise will play a major role in connecting companies to global markets and expertise within the hydrocarbon industry, thus securing Energy City Qatar's status as the first global hub for companies in this sector."

ECQ is part of a massive development in the new city of Lusail, north of Doha. Currently under development, the city is expected to be ready for use by 2010.
