Sennheiser announces world's first truly wireless headphones

Audiophiles keen to travel that little bit lighter can look forward to a treat this May. Sennheiser are releasing the MX W1, a high-end headphone set that’s completely free of wires- for the first time ever in commercial audio, each earbud will be a standalone unit.

The set will retail for $600 and consist of the earbuds, a matchbook-sized transmitter unit that produces CD quality sound, and a travel charger that will recharge both earbuds’ five hour battery life in 15 minutes.

The transmitter uses ‘Kleer’ wireless technology, which uses very low latencies to produce interference-free, high quality transmissions which use five to ten times less battery power than Bluetooth.

Up to four earbuds (two pairs) can receive the signal from the transmitter unit simultaneously, from a range of up to 30 feet.
