aeCERT launches next stage of cyber security campaign
by Mark Sutton on Tuesday, 18 March 2008
The UAE National Computer Emergency Response Team (aeCERT) has launched the next part of its twelve month National Cyber-Space Security Awareness campaign. The new program, the fourth part so far, will focus on raising awareness of online threats for businesses and consumers in the UAE.
The new campaign consists of three education modules focused on email security, instant messaging and web browser security and will include best practices and tips for end users.
Fatma Bazargan, manager for research and analysis at the aeCERT said: "This new security awareness program and education modules will help the nation leverage the benefits of technology; while learning about the key security issues facing individuals and organizations. The National Cyber-Space Security Awareness Campaign is a key factor in the aeCERT strategy and vision designed to help build and promote a safer and secure cyber culture within the UAE, through educating general users, businesses and youth on matters relating to cyber safety."
The aeCERT was formed by the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA), and security specialists Symantec, to help protect against the growing range of security threats.
Suleman Bakhsh, senior compliance and research analyst at the aeCERT, said: "Email is a prevalent and powerful communication tool, and methods of exchanging information via email messages are various. This tool can increase the risks to an individual's personal information or to an organization's confidential documents. It is extremely important to ensure that the general and business users are running an up-to-date antivirus software programs that scans email attachments."
