Fishermen get set to reel in AED 10,000 at Jumeriah Beach Hotel’s BIG6 Tournament

by Scott Lang on Wednesday, 19 March 2008

The Arabian Sea will once again be set rocking on March 21 when BIG6 Fishing Tournament returns.

The annual competition in its fourth year organised by the Jumeirah Beach Hotel, in association with ART Marine, and this year sponsored by Suzuki and Riviera, will allow fishing enthusiasts of all abilities the chance to put their skills to the test and compete for the biggest catch of the day - AED 10,000 (US $2700).

Fishermen will sail out in the early hours of Friday morning for a day on the water before returning to Jumeirah Beach Hotel for a BBQ dinner and prize-giving ceremony at the hotel's North Beach.

The tournament will be judged according to six categories of fish, with the winner of each category receiving AED 2000 ($550), and the biggest catch of the day will receive a price of AED 10,000 ($2700).

"We have seen a definite increase in the number of people participating and interested in the BIG6 Fishing Tournament, and we are therefore delighted to be taking the competition to the next level and increasing the prize fund," said Jumeirah Beach Hotel general manager Heinrich Morio.

"The BIG6 Fishing Tournament is a further extension of our already existing diverse range of sports and leisure facilities. Together with ART Marine we hope to further develop interest in one of the world's most popular sports, here in Dubai," he added.

Captain Alessio Tumbiolo, CEO of ART Marine, said "We are delighted with the results of the three previous Big6 Fishing Tournaments and we are looking forward to participate in its fourth edition.

"We have seen the number of participants increasing dramatically over the last few events and we are convinced that the next Big6 Fishing Tournament will break all the records," he concluded.
