Kamal Kumar, Touchmate's general manager of import and export

Dubai-based IT and electronics producer and distributor, Touchmate, has targeted Turkey as its next market for expansion with the opening of its first showroom in the country's capital Ankara. The Touchmate Digimarket, as the retail centre has been called, is being run by distributor Temcom, the company's first in-country partner.

Kamal Kumar, Touchmate's general manager of import and export has been overseeing the launch of the showroom in Turkey, which came about after Temcom expressed an interest in its product range and the possibility of offering it to the Turkish market.

"The distributor came to us and said it liked the concept of our products and wanted to bring something to the people of Turkey with a similar concept," revealed Kumar. "The idea then started developing. It took around three to four months because we had to design the products according to Turkish customisation requirements and then the first shipment was to the capital Ankara, following shortly with the opening of the showroom."

"The Turkish market is a very good market and an important market for Touchmate. It is competitive but at the same time it is an expansive market with a big end-user base," continued Kumar.

Now that it has entered the Turkish IT sector, Touchmate does not plan to stop at a single showroom in the capital. "We want to spread the range of Touchmate all over Turkey. We have started with Ankara but we gradually want to spread into all of the cities like Istanbul and Izmir," he said. "At the moment we have started with our own showroom, but later on we plan to supply through the major retail markets such as Media Market. Our distributor will be responsible for developing the relationship with these resellers."
