Slick sound solutions

by Jason Saundalkar & Cleona Godinho on Monday, 24 March 2008

Great audio is the key to drowning yourself in your favourite game. To help make your next frag feast feel like the real deal then, check our these top speaker offerings...

Creative I-Trigue 3400

If you're on the hunt for a great set of speakers that's made for small-space gaming, we suggest checking out Creative's latest I-Trigue offering. The I-Trigue 3400 includes two small satellite speakers and a subwoofer.

The set boasts a funky black and silver design, which all you fashion-conscious gamers will love, and the speakers themselves are slim and sleek, so they'll take up very little space on your desktop (leaving enough room for your monster gaming LCD or CRT!).

The 3400 is a 40-watt system, which we reckon is good enough for console gaming in a small space such as a home office or bedroom.

Altec Lansing Fx5051 Surround System

Like the G51, the FX5051 from Altec Lansing is a 5.1-channel speaker system designed to bring surround sound to your PC gaming.

If you're an online gamer, you'll especially appreciate being able to hear the direction your opponents approach from, and you may even gain an advantage over people playing with standard stereo computer speakers.

The firm claims the FX5051 is the first speaker set to feature a USB cable, so just plug it into your PC's USB port then and you're away... even if you don't have a six-channel sound card!

Razer Barracuda Hp-1 Gaming Headphones

Unless your live on your own apartment and so can have your PC speakers turned up as loud as you want, at some point in time you'll probably benefit from using headphones to immerse yourself in your game without starting a relationship war.

Using headphones for gaming can also provide a bit of an advantage - in that you can often hear your team or an enemy coming before they woudl expect. And that little edge can truly be the difference between making a clever kill or being the one getting wasted.

Logitech G51 Speakers

The G51 is a 5.1 system that features 360-degree surround sound with dual Matrix modes, allowing you to enjoy an immersive gaming experience from any two-channel stereo source.

The set is designed to split the audio signal into six channels of sound, without degrading the audio quality, so even if your favourite game doesn't offer sixchannel audio, you can still enjoy it anyway.

The system offers two Matrix modes: Gaming and Music, both of which can power out up to 155 watts of RMS power. A monstrously good solution.
