The first batch of students at Batelco's Cisco Academy have completed their six-month CCNA course, the Bahrain telecom announced yesterday.

The students - twelve Batelco staff members and four unemployed Bahraini women who were nominated by the Ministry of Labour and sponsored by Batelco - were all reported to have passed the networking certification with high marks.

The Cisco CCNA certification trains the user to install, configure, operate, and troubleshoot mid-sized networks, and includes elements of security, WAN and wireless networking.

Shaikh Ahmed Al Khalifa, Batelco Group general manager human resources commented: "We are very proud of this achievement and also delighted to be helping young Bahrainis to attain their career goals by offering scholarships."

The Cisco Academy was opened last year in a joint venture between Batelco, Cisco and the Bahrain Training Institute to help develop a qualified workforce to support Bahrain's IT and telecommunications industry.
