Redington has beefed up its mobility portfolio by striking a partnership with Dubai-based Windows Mobile specialist i-mate.

The deal hands Redington responsibility for increasing the in-store availability of the vendor’s products throughout the retail channel, as well as supporting resellers and retailers in several Gulf markets including the UAE.

“We have seen increased demand for our Ultimate and JAMA ranges across the region,” explained Jack Craine, general manager MEA and India at i-mate. “Redington is the ideal partner for us since its credibility and track record is second to none. Their teams, offices and logistics in the UAE, Kuwait, Oman and Qatar will serve to represent i-mate, and will drive our reseller and retail penetration in those markets.”

Redington is no stranger to i-mate’s domain due to its long-term focus on the telecoms business. The distributor, which made MEA sales in excess of US$700m last year, has a dedicated business unit that manages mobile brands such as Nokia.

Sumant Saran, VP of Redington’s Telecom Division, said the decision to partner with i-mate was designed to help the company capture some of the “explosive” growth of the global Windows Mobile device market.
