LG Electronics has announced the UAE launch of its latest high-tech plasma TVs, which this year took home the Best of Innovations award at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show.

The PG60 flatscreen TV’s first and foremost achievement is its ‘borderless design’, meaning the entire front of the unit is a completely flat sheet of solid glass. Next up are the ‘invisible speakers’ designed by Mark Levinson, which are hidden behind the glass and use the flat front of the TV as a sounding board.

Also on the TV’s checklist are a 30,000:1 contrast ration, a 150Hz refresh rate and a USB port for playing mp3s or viewing image files from any number of common connectible devices.

The 50 inch version of the PG60 is available at retailers throughout the region from AED 8,299, with a 42 inch version retailing for a less painful AED 5,299.

Also launched today were LG’s PG30 and PG20 plasma TVs, the former of which features a built-in 160GB hard drive. The PG70 however, which allows for wireless transmission, was absent from the launch.

LG secured 27% of the regional market for plasma TVs in 2007, and wants to increase that to 35% in 2008.
