Khaled Kamel is the new general manager for Lenovo Middle East, Egypt and Pakistan

Lenovo has appointed Khaled Kamel as its new general manager for Middle East Egypt & Pakistan.

Kamel joins the company from HP, where he headed up the Imaging and Printing business. He has been in the IT industry in the Middle East for 19 years, working for a number of leading companies.

Kamel said: "This is a very exciting time to be joining Lenovo, and to be moving into the PC industry. IDC predictions state that growth of the Gulf PC market will continue to accelerate at an average rate of over 16% between now and 2011. Lenovo has, and will continue, to drive this growth through ongoing expansion of the channel, aggressive marketing campaigns, and of course, unique PC technology across the various market segments."

Lenovo ranked as the number four PC vendors worldwide by shipments in 2007, although the company is outside of the top 5 in the EMEA region, according to figures from IDC.

Mathias Schaedel vice president, South-East region, Lenovo EMEA commented: "Lenovo is very pleased to welcome Khaled to the MEEP team. With extensive experience in the region's technology market and a fresh approach to the business, Khaled will drive the fulfilment of Lenovo's vision and build on the successful performance this region has witnessed over the past few years.

"The coming year will be an exciting one for Lenovo, taking us into the consumer segment, with a unique product offering with real differentiators and exciting features for PC users in the region. This is a demanding, highly sophisticated consumer market, and Khaled will play a key role in driving its growth in 2008 and the years to come," Schaedel added.
