Crane industry reaches tipping point

A critical report published in Saudi Arabia has said that almost half of all construction firms operating in the country failed to provide adequate training and health and safety standards to staff. The paper revealed that there were a staggering 102,259 injuries on worksites throughout the Kingdom during 2005, and 493 deaths.
With this in mind, the issues around crane safety and maintenance have never been more relevant.
In the forthcoming issue, we discuss maintenance standards in the region with a tower crane erector. There is also a question-and-answer session with one of the UAEs top crane dealers and most outspoken safety advocates. In addition, we analyse the crane industry as a whole, with comments from some of the Gulf's leading experts.
However, if you can't wait until the magazine comes out, don't miss the Saudi Cranes and PMV Show, to be held in Saudi Aramco, Dammam, KSA on the 29th and 30th of April. All the major manufacturers and heavy lift specialists will be present, with talks on just about every ‘live' issue in the working-at-height industry. We'll see you there.
