Tetra Pak reports impressive growth in emerging markets

by Lynne Nolan on Tuesday, 22 April 2008

Tetra Pak announced record sales today of US €8.7 billion in 2007, up 6.1% from 2006 in comparable terms.

"Several factors helped stimulate global sales growth in 2007. These include continued strong growth in emerging and fast growing markets, our focus on cost effective innovation and our strategy of working closely with our customers to enhance operational performance and develop total system solutions, "said Tetra Pak's President and CEO Dennis Jönsson.

Sales of processing solutions reached €911 million in 2007, up more than 12% from the previous year. Packaging solutions sales reached approximately €7.8 billion in 2007, an increase of 4.1% over 2006.

Tetra Pak achieved double-digit sales growth in a number of fast-growing and emerging markets last year, including the Middle East, India, Pakistan, Russia, Brazil, and Latin America.

Globally Tetra Pak supplied a record 137 billion individual packages during 2007. Leading food and beverage companies around the world used these packages to deliver over 69.5 billion litres of milk, juice, fruits and other products to its customers, enough to fill 27,800 Olympic-sized swimming pools.

In 2007 Tetra Pak Arabia, the Arabian market company of Tetra Pak, witnessed its first year as an entity comprising GCC and Yemen. Previously known as Tetra Pak Saudi Arabia and Tetra Pak Gulf, the two different entities were merged last year with the objective of better serving the markets and to support customers that include leading dairy, food and beverage manufacturers in the region.

Strong consumer demand and increased production capacity at the factory located in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, continued in 2007 with the company producing a total of five billion cartons in 2007. Most of the carton packaging material produced in the Jeddah factory was supplied to Tetra Pak Arabia's vast customer base in Saudi Arabia and also exported to customers in over 24 other countries including the Middle East, Europe and Asia.
