Italian newspaper La Repubblica has reported that Telecom Italia Mobile is going to be offering the upcoming 3G version of Apple’s iPhone both with and without a contract.
All over the world customers buying the iPhone have been locked into a contract with the service provider selling the handset. This has been particularly off-putting in the Italian market, where prepaid service plans are exceptionally popular.
The 3G iPhone that Telecom Italia plan to offer will also be unlocked, meaning customers can use it with other mobile carriers.
While the 3G iPhone hasn’t been officially announced yet, analysts expect it to ship in June.
A recent series of global iPhone price cuts is believed to represent retailers clearing out their stock in preparation for the new model.
The Middle East region is still without a dedicated iPhone importer. As of today, Arab Business Machines has said they’re not in talks with Apple about the device.
