Marriott Germany targets the region

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer on Thursday, 01 May 2008
The Heidelberg Marriott is looking to attract top-end Middle East business this summer.

Two of Marriott International's German properties have announced their intentions to target the Middle East market.

The Cologne and Heidelberg Marriott hotels will use their presence on the Marriott stand at ATM to drum up regional business and forge relationships with the local travel trade.

"We will bring our promotional material and special seasonal offer to attract summer business from the region, especially the high-end family travellers," said Sitske de Room, sales manager, Cologne Marriott Hotel Operating Company.

While it would be promoting its product to corporate clients, the hotel was looking to attract mainly leisure business from the region throughout the summer months, according to de Room.

"We will bring a special offer with us for summer, which contains a reduced room night rate and we will also showcase our special children's programmes in operation at the hotel," he said.

The Heidelberg Marriott Hotel will also be looking to develop partnerships with the regional travel trade and attract Middle East guests, according to director of sales and marketing Christophe Karkan.

"We are hoping to achieve exposure amongst the Gulf travellers, showcasing Heidelberg and Heidelberg Marriott Hotel as the ideal location to either spend the summer in Germany or for families to stay while a relative receives treatment, as Heidelberg has some of Germany's best hospitals in many areas of medicine," he said.

"We will also look to strengthen relationships with potential customers and agents," he added.

"In order to achieve this, we have made appointments with local families and travel agencies, as well as producing ready-made summer packages and long-stay rates. We are targeting guests from the Arabian Peninsula for the summer and long-stay business."
