GFS to launch cash and carry concept

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer on Friday, 02 May 2008
The cash and carry concept will launch in June.

Gunter Facility Supplies (GFS) plans to launch a cash and carry showroom for catering supplies at its warehouse facility in Dubai. The new venture would launch in time for the Hotel Show in June, said the company's managing director Rami Safadi.

"The concept will apply to the existing brands that we deal with, and the restaurateurs will be able to walk into the showroom and pick out the items they require.

"By the end of their visit, we will have the customer's order and it will all be available to be delivered to them within 24 to 48 hours," he explained.

The cash and carry service would include branded and non-branded items and would aim to target all levels of the market, from high-end hotel restaurants to three-star properties and serviced apartments.

The current trend in the regional hospitality market towards "zero inventory" was the reason for launching this new service said Safadi.

"Emptying the stores of one month's stock before they start on the next month is more efficient. Hotels enhance their cash flow and free up their storage capacity," he explained.

The new concept would help to significantly improve service and delivery times for GFS customers, added general manager Martin Koebke.

"We know that the industry always wants things yesterday. Generally, people don't really want to wait for stock re-orders," he explained.

"It's hard for manufacturers to have small quantities available in a short time, but that's exactly what we'll offer, and customers won't have to wait 10 to 12 weeks for small orders."
