Private healthcare facilities in Dubai may need in-house translators, following a decision by Dubai's Department of Health and Medical Services (DoHMS) that all correspondence it receives must be in Arabic.

In a circular issued to clinics and hospitals in the emirate, which also applies to the forthcoming Dubai Health Authority (DHA), Nasser Lootah, director of the Licensing and Specification Department, said:

"All private healthcare facilities are required to...use the Arabic language in all its communication and correspondences with [the] DHA."

Dr Sarah Peeters, clinical director of Prime Health Group, said it was unclear how DHA will interact with clinics.

"I think I would try to call them or to visit them. I don't really know how it will affect us yet," she said.
